“The Memory Box” by Eva Lesko Natiello
Can the results of a Google search upend your life?
Using Google is an everyday thing for most of us - but how often does someone google themselves?
After learning that a group of moms from her daughters' school google others to dig up dirt and gossip, Caroline Thompson googles her married name - and is relieved when she sees that the search results are all good. But then she googles her maiden name (which none of the other moms know)… and is shocked at what she sees.
What Caroline finds in her search turns her world upside down. Scrolling down the search results page she finds her sister's name…in her obituary, dated some years back. How is that possible? They'd just spoken a few days ago… or so she thinks. This sends Caroline into a whirlwind of confusion and shocking revelations as she uncovers circumstances that she doesn't remember happening.
This psychological thriller keeps you hooked from beginning to end. It is a page-turner that kept me intrigued and surprised, as Caroline goes through the story discovering what seems to have happened in a past that she has no recollection of.
I have to say though, that the main character was a bit baffling to me. You could say that the deranged and crazy behaviour that she often shows in the story is a result of her recent findings, but I think that it was more of a resource that the author used to set the scene for the unexpected ending - which, by the way was a tad puzzling to me.
If you enjoy thrillers, this is an entertaining and intriguing one. It will for sure do the job of keeping you wanting to find out more as you go through its pages.
